Can be expected to be very hot with the possibility of severe thunderstorms. Evenings are warm and pleasant.
Amongst your local fans you find ... mosquitos, including the tiger mosquito which is also present in daytime. Please bring mosquito repellent !!!
There are no ATMs (cash machines, Bancomat) at the hotel. For paying in bars etc. at the hotel, you get and charge a pay card at the reception.
Lecture notes will be provided in book form. Copies of the overheads used by the teachers are not provided at the school, but for some courses can be downloaded (before or after the school) from this website.
The hotel has free wireless Internet connection.
However, please note that
we do not accept use of computers/tables/mobile phones for reading mail, checking facebook etc. during letures !.
Italy uses type L plugs and sockets, so you should consider bringing an adaptor, although a type C plug (Europlug) will fit.
Transportation to the nearest station will be provided on Saturday for people who wish to go to Palermo or Cefalu. A number of excursions can be arranged through the travel service at the hotel: students should enquire about these possibilities themselves.
There is a poster session Sunday morning (odd posters 0830-1000; even posters 1030-1200). We provide poster boards and tape for hanging up the posters. The size of the posters is A0 portrait (84.1 x 118.9 cm). There is no possibility of printing posters at the hotel, so you have to bring your poster from home.
The hotel provides access to a washing machine for students during the two weeks of the school. At least in weekends you have to reserve time.
Accompanying persons are possible, but this has to be arranged with the hotel. Mail the hotel, specify that you will attend the summerschool (ESQC) and indicate the number of accompanying persons and their duration of stay. Likewise, if you are extending your own stay, you will have to organize this with the hotel.
It does happen that luggage gets delayed in Palermo. The missing luggage will then be delivered to the hotel within a few days. It is well worth bearing this possibility in mind and bringing a change of clothes in your carry-on bag.
We do not recommend drinking the tap water, although there is no problem brushing your teeth. You can buy 1.5 liter bottles of water (naturale/gassata) in the hotel bars at reasonable prices.
The hotel has a nice swimming pool as well as a private beach, the latter accessible by elevator next to the pool. Both are open 08h - 19h (unless weather conditions do not allow it).
